Born in Groningen, Pete Hoekstra found his way back to the Nederlands serving as the United States Ambassador to the Netherlands. As a member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 2nd congressional district. Together with professor Niels van Willigen, the SPIL will talk with Mr. Hoekstra about American foreign policy, the bilateral relations between US and the Netherlands and more. On the 4th of September, the SPIL meets the Commander of the Royal Dutch Navy Rob Kramer, hosted by professor Theo Brinkel. The Commander of the Naval Forces is in charge of the Royal Netherlands Navy. His main task is to ensure that navy units are ready for deployment. The commander is responsible for preparing, leading and executing operations. He reports to the Commander of the Armed Forces (CDS). We”ll talk about the Dutch Navy, NATO, and operations overseas. The deadline for committee registrations has passed. Later this year, registrations for the Freshmen Weekend Committee and the SPIL Weekend Committee will open.
Committees are a key part of the operation of any student association, and the SPIL is no different. The committees that the SPIL offers can give you the opportunity to experience something completely new, or participate in an area that you are already passionate about. There is also variety of ways that you can participate in your area of interest, from organising activities and events, to writing for a magazine, to working as part of an international group.
